The Evolution Model SLR Lock Mandrel is built for use with SLR (Otis® R) Profile Nipples installed in heavy weight tubing. The lock mandrel has two locking keys, or dogs, to prevent both upward and downward movement once the device is engaged in the nipple. It has no No-Go intrinsic to the lock mandrel itself. The tool also features an internal fishing neck.
Operation
Non-selective useFor non-selective running, attach the SLR Lock Mandrel and the required flow control tool to the SLR Running Tool with the Lock Mandrel keys in the locked position. Lower the tools into the tubing, to the required depth. Once the Lock Mandrel engages with the nipple, put up to shear off the running tool, and retrieve.
Selective useWhen a Flow Control device is to be run selectively, the following procedure is followed. Attach the SLR Lock Mandrel and the required flow control tool to the SLR Running Tool. Lower the tools into the tubing, to the required depth. The running tool will hold the locking keys of the Lock Mandrel in the retracted position until the desired landing nipple is reached. As the packing section of the Flow Control device passes through the seal bores section of the landing nipples, the resulting loss of weight will show on the weight indicator. To set in an SLR Nipple (Otis®-Type R), pass through the nipple with the running tool. Once past, raise the running tool back up into the landing nipple. This action causes a shift in the dogs on body of the running tool, causing locking keys on the Lock Mandrel to expand. Set down the running tool again. The keys on the Lock Mandrel will locate and lock into the locking recess in the Landing Nipple. Jar down to set the Lock Mandrel firmly in place. Jar up to shear the lower pin on the running tool. Retrieve the running tool from the well. |
