DescriptionThe Evolution CATA-X2 Torque Anchor is our third generation line of torque anchors following the CATA and CATA-X. The CATA-X2 provides a simple and reliable solution to tuning back-off when progressive cavity (PC) pumps are used. The design combines centralizing features and extra bypass along with anchoring functionality. This CATA-X2 design provides a solution to high RPM / high torque PC Pump applications in large cased wells (9-5/8”). In such cases, other torque anchors can slip of the tool which, in turn, creates a risk of tubing back-off.

This problem was particularly evident in the Metal-on-Metal PC Pump application. We determined that producers were not putting nearly enough consideration or emphasis on Centralization and Stabilization of the tubing for their large high RPM / high torque PC pumping applications.
The CATA-X2 includes a row of Centralizing Pads (Drag Blocks) on each end of this tool, which also led to the success that the tool had in that application. OperationThe CATA-X2 should be run into the first joint of casting for an initial function test. This is accomplished by setting the anchor with 300 ft. lbs. of right‐hand torque to ensure proper engagement with the casing in the well. Once this function test is completed the torque may be relaxed and the anchor run to the required setting depth. When the anchor has reached the required depth, apply approximately 300 ft. lbs. (400 NM) of right hand torque to securely engage the anchoring blocks to the casing wall. Pre-torqueing the tubing string will avoid engaging disengaging the anchor when starting and stopping the pump. The setting torque may now be locked and the pump operation started. The running procedure of the CATA-X2 is as straightforward. The anchor is installed below the pump and can be run in and out of the well freely. When the anchor has reached the required depth, the application of approximately 300 ft lbs. right hand torque will securely engage the anchoring blocks to the casing wall. The setting torque may now be locked in and the pump operation started. To disengage the anchor, simply stop the pump. Specifications
