The Evolution Model PS-TXT Packer is a quarter-turn, compression set, retrievable packer that is capable of holding high pressure from above and below. It is used for acidizing, fracturing, cementing and casing pressure tests. The PS-TXT utilizes and internal collet to prevent closing of the bypass system while running, circulating or reversing at high displacement rates. The collet releases during the setting procedure by applying tubing weight and the bypass is closed. Setting requires manipulation of the J-Slot mechanism in either right or left-hand orientations. Drag blocks, wicker slips and a three piece packing element system enhance overall packer performance for the PS-TXT. The hydraulic hold-down pistons remain protected during running and circulation, minimizing damage potential and improving the tool reliability. With its comparatively short overall length, the PS-TXT is ideal for deviated or directional wells.
Running ProcedureMake up the packer with the work string and run the tool to the desired setting depth. Slowly pick up the tool and rotate the tubing ¼ turn to the left (or the right depending on jay configuration) at the packer. Set down and pack off the tool. When releasing, if possible, reduce the differential pressure across the tool. Slowly raise the tubing until the by-pass on the packer opens. Allow enough time for the packer to equalize. Rotate the tubing ¼ turn, opposite direction of setting direction, at the tool to reset it in running position.
